Farmers & Merchants State Bank is seeking a highly motivated and results-driven Ag & Commercial Lender to join our dynamic team. Position Overview
This individual will be responsible for developing, managing, and expanding relationships with agricultural and commercial clients by providing tailored financial solutions to meet their needs. The ideal candidate will have two to five years of experience in agricultural and commercial lending, strong oral and written communication skills, a strong understanding of financial products and a passion for supporting local businesses and farms.
Responsibilities
- Loan origination—Identify and develop new business opportunities by prospecting, generating leads, and building relationships within the agriculture and commercial sectors.
- Relationship management–Maintain and grow relationships with current clients, ensuring on-going satisfaction and identifying additional lending opportunities.
- Credit Analysis—Analyze clients’ financial status, creditworthiness, and business operations to recommend appropriate loan products. Work with credit analyst to prepare loan packages and present them to loan committee for approval as needed.
- Risk Management—Assess and mitigate risks associated with lending decisions. Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and internal policies. Collaborate with clients to understand their financial needs and provide tailored lending solutions. Conduct site visits and financial assessments to evaluate and monitor ongoing loan performance.
- Market expertise—Stay current on industry trends, economic conditions and regulatory changes affecting the agricultural and commercial lending sectors.
- Collaboration—Work closely with the credit team to ensure exceptional customer service.
- Cross-Selling—Identify opportunities to cross-sell bank products and services.
- Community involvement–Participate in community events and agricultural organizations to promote Farmers & Merchants and our services.
Requirements
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, business or related field.
- Minimum 2-5 years of experience in agricultural and commercial lending.
- Strong understanding of agricultural lending practices, including loan structures, underwriting, financial analysis and risk management as well as the ability to assess financial statements, cash flows and business plans.
- Familiarity with loan origination processes and related documentation is essential.
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and credit software.
- Detail oriented and strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple applications simultaneously.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
- Willingness to travel as needed to meet with clients or for educational purposes.
Salary Range
$55,000 to $75,000 annually
